What is Cochlear Electrolysis?
COCHLEA: A spiral-shaped cavity
of the inner ear that resembles a snail shell and contains nerve endings essential for hearing.
COCHLEAR: \Coch"le*ar\, a. (Anat.) Of or pertaining to the cochlea.
ELECTROLYSIS: e·lec·trol·y·sis (-lk-trl-ss, lk-)n. Destruction of living tissue, by means of an electric current applied
with a needle-shaped electrode. Chemical change, especially decomposition, that is produced in an electrolyte by an electric
current.
COCHLEAR ELECTROLYSIS: koke·lee·yer·elec·traw·la·sis is 1 person with an alter-ego that has the ability to see things
from many different perspectives. Cochlear Electrolysis is an experiment, a test to see what would happen if the
sound sources are limited to random generated looping patterns. While leaving the manipulation tools completely intact. The
performance requires dependence on instinct as opposed to simply playing back practice electronic songs.

MUSIC
The music created could
be considered a lobotomized IC JAZZ improvised in JAZZ tradition. The instruments used have connections
surgically severed from the IC LOBE. "Circuit bending chaos for your ears"
PERFORMANCE DETAILS & LOOPING TECHNIQUES
***NOTHING IS PRE-RECORDED AND NO PRE-EXISTING SOUNDS SUCH
AS SAMPLE LOOPS, OR SYNTHESIZER TONES ARE USED. ALSO NO SYNTHESIZERS, SEQUENCERS, DRUM MACHINES, OR COMPUTERS WILL ASSIST ME DURING THE LIVE PERFORMANCE. THE ONLY SOUNDS USED ARE RANDOMLY GENERATED
LIVE VIA CIRCUIT BENT CIRCUITS WHICH ARE THEN MANIPULAED INTO A COMPOSITION. (I don't even know what the sounds
will sound like!)***
The show is improvised using circuit bent circuits created by COCHLEAR ELECTROLYSIS.The circuits are designed to create random looping patterns when triggered by switches, .
No 2 sounds or performance are the same. Once the circuit bent circuits are triggered the loops generated are recorded to
a 4 track looping recording (MRS-4) and/or phrase sampler (SU200)...
COCHLEAR ELECTROLYSIS creates an on going composition that
contains many movements. Every time I perform a new moment is added to the final composition. Once a show (movement) is
done the recorded proformance is then added to the previous recorded movement (show). In this way the final composition
is always fresh. The device iteself is the conductor generating the sound, I am a mere performer in this demented orchestra. We are conducted by the Corrosive Modulators random tones, loops, and organized noise.
One approach I take during our performance is to record sounds at varying
length to the MRS-4... A technique similar to Terry Riley and Brian Eno. Once the tracks are recorded the circuit bent circuits are used again and the recorded loops continue to play
as a seamless transition. Keep in mind again that no pre-existing samples will be used, ONLY the circuit bent generated
loops created the day of the show will be manipulated. The phrase sampler will be used live to generate variation. There will
be additional circuit bent circuits played over the top of the existing tracks.
WHAT'S THE POINT
The appeal of the COCHLEAR ELECTROLYSIS show is that not only will the show
be entirely improvised and random, but the loops themselves will also be randomly improvised!
